Employment

The official school leaving date is the last Friday in June. Your son/daughter can legally start full-time employment after that (as long as they will turn 16 by 31st August of the same year). They can look for employment before this date, but will not be allowed to start until afterwards.

If your son/daughter decides they would like to start work after school, Connexions can give them help and advice both before and after they leave school. Personal Advisers will help them to prepare for and deal with the move from school to employment.

Once your son/daughter has left school and is starting to look for a job, there is help and information available to them at Connexions centres. Connexions centres specialise in vacancies for young people (aged 16-19), with regularly updated vacancy boards. These include Apprenticeship vacancies, which are jobs with built-in training.

Personal Advisers in centres can help young people with job applications, offering advice and guidance on application forms, CV writing and interviews.
