Year 9 Parent's Guide - IntroductionFor other information related to Year 9 information, see also: The Connexions Direct parents and carers website pages Download the national Connexions publication for parents/carers of students in Year 9 and above, in English or 10 other languages. Year 9 is the first opportunity your child has to have a say in what lessons they take. This is commonly referred to as 'taking options' for GCSEs and other courses. Neither you nor your child is alone with these choices. Connexions Personal Advisers are available to offer information and advice to young people and their parents/carers. They work in schools, colleges and units, delivering information through group sessions. Your child can also meet with a Personal Adviser on a one-to-one basis if they need more support in deciding on their options. In school, Careers Education/PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) lessons will help your child with the decision-making process, and Connexions resource centres are available to provide them with the information resources they need. Special Educational Needs (SEN)Connexions Black Country has Personal Advisers who specialise in supporting young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Contact your nearest Connexions centre for more information on the guidance and support they can offer. |
