Impartial Careers Education Strategy Guidance Resources Pack

 

This is aimed at schools -but PAs working in Schools will also find this pack invaluable. Online downloadable materials include Ways and Choices covering 20 topics (including KS4 and Post 16 decisions, LMI, Apprenticeships and Diplomas), key fact cards, two video programmes - one about choices aimed at young people and one aimed at parents and carers- and all the current strategy information.

Hard copy of these resources including the DVD and interactive versions of Ways and Choices can be ordered online.

Curriculum Matters

A Connexions Black Country newsletter produced by Prospects containing updates on matters relating to careers education and guidance, PSHE, Citizenship and work-related learning. Several paper copies are distributed in all schools, colleges and units for the attention of Careers/PSHE/Citizenship Co-ordinators, Head Teachers/Principals, governing body members, senior management team, SENCOs, Post-16 co-ordinators, and to Connexions Personal Advisers and partner professionals.

Careers Education and IAG Support Programme

The Careers Education and IAG support Programme (CESP) produces a newsletter that updates on all aspects of the careers education curriculum. This newsletter is now called CEIAG News.

CESP is also responsible for the CEGNET (Careers and Education Guidance Network) website which contains lots of useful information, including everything you need to know about careers education, including CRCI (Connexions Resource Centre Index).

Student Finance Materials

The new Student Finance site - www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance will enable students to work out and apply for student finance once it is operational. There is a dedicated site for practitioners which includes a range of downloadable practitioner materials and powerpoints. There is also a practitioner helpline on 0845 602 0583 if you have a query or would like hard copies of their practitioner materials. Students should ring the customer helpline on 0845 300 5090.

Career Champions

Black Country Quality Award Standards in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance and in Work Placements

The Black Country Quality Awards are designed to accredit good practice and encourage development in CEIAG in Black Country schools and colleges and work placements. Any school or college in the Black Country can work towards these standards, with the support of Connexions. A list of institutions currently holding the BCQA in CEIAG/CEG and/or Work Placements is posted below.

A number of schools include Careers Education within the scheme of work for CoPE. This document maps challenges within CoPE Module 6 (Vocational Preparation) and Module 8 (Work Related Learning and Enterprise) to the Careers Education and Guidance Framework learning outcomes.
